REI Honored with WTBA Awards

REI Engineering, Inc. was presented with the Special Recognition Award in the Mega Projects category during the 2013 Highway Construction Awards held this January at the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association Contractor Engineering Conference in Madison. REI’s team member Tom Marschke was recognized for project leadership of the USH 41/STH 29 Interchange. Additionally, Hoffman Construction Company, Black River Falls, was recognized with the Special Recognition Award for grading work associated with the USH 41/STH 29 Interchange.

REI was also nominated for the North Central Region in the Asphalt Paving category for its project leadership associated with US 51 Minocqua.

"We are truly fortunate to have so many private-sector partners who do outstanding work to keep people and commerce moving safely across Wisconsin," said Wisconsin Department of Transportation Director of Project Development Beth Cannestra.  "It's always difficult to choose award winners because our contractors do great work, but after careful consideration, we feel these projects are among the best of the best."

On the USH 41/STH 29 project, some 1.4 million cubic yards of material were moved, and the project involved relocation of one-mile of Beaver Dam Creek. It also included the construction of a 110-acre wetland mitigation site that will be overseen by the state Department of Natural Resources and used as a spawning habitat for northern pike.
