REI Shares Seeds to Recognize Earth Day

Wausau, WI, April 22, 2014 -- In recognition of Earth Day, REI Engineering, Inc. is distributing seeds to Marathon County area students and community members. REI’s goal is to give out 500 packets of seeds. To accomplish this goal, REI is asking its team members’ children to give the seeds to their classmates. Students at schools including Newman Catholic Elementary School, Riverside Elementary School, Marathon Area Elementary School, Rosholt Elementary School, Mosinee Schools, Trinity Lutheran School and even local daycares will benefit from receiving REI’s gift.

“Small gestures can make a large impact,” says REI president Jeny Nieuwenhuis. “The seed packets we are sharing with local students are a token to open up the conversation about Earth Day. Earth Day doesn’t have to be about solving environmental crises, but it can serve as a reminder that we can make practical adjustments that have a greater impact on the shaping of our community.”

Earth Day is a worldwide rally for environmental protection. Every department at REI including survey, civil engineering, civil construction and environmental has an impact on the shaping and development of the environment. Because REI strives to be cognizant of the impact it has on the community, it supports Earth Day and the environmental protection it stands for. Distributing seeds to local students is a fun activity to demonstrate the importance of taking care of the environment.
